Mass Appeal India is an Indian subsidiary hip hop record label operated by Mass Appeal Records, an American independent record label founded in 2014 by Nas.[1]
History[edit]
Mass Appeal India began it's operations on 20 August 2019, as multi-partnership within Universal Music India. It is the first global subsidiary by Mass Appeal Records.[2][3]
The label initially signed the artist DIVINE as its inaugural signee.[4] On October 9, 2019, the label released its first track, "Kohinoor," by DIVINE. Later, he released three studio albums, "Kohinoor", "Punya Paap", "Gunehgar" with Mass Appeal India.[5]
In November 2023, KSHMR reconnected with his Indian roots to release the desi hip hop album "KARAM" through Mass Appeal India.[6] The album included collaborations from artists such as Raftaar, KRSNA, Ikka, Seedhe Maut, Raja Kumari, The PropheC, Dabzee, and Talha Anjum.[7] "KARAM" was in top position on the hip hop charts on Apple Music in India.[8]
In 2023, Mass Appeal India initiated a scouting program in the South Indian market to sign Malayalam hip-hop artists, after the growth in the Malayalam music Industry.[9] The label's first signee under this initiative was the hip-hop artist Dabzee. Subsequently, they signed other artists in Malayalam hip-hop, including ThirumaLi, BABY JEAN, Vedan, among others.[10]
