The paddle steamer was wrecked on the Baldargo Reef, 20 nautical miles (37 km) west of A Coruña , Spain with the loss of 35 of the 125 people on board. Survivors were rescued by L'Erlbe ( France ), North Britain ( United Kingdom ), local boats or reached shore in the ships' boats. Solway was on a voyage from Southampton , Hampshire , to the West Indies .[35]
