Cameron Guarino is an American baseball player who has competed for Georgetown Hoyas baseball and currently plays for the Fussen Royal Bavarians in Germany.[1] He has also been a member of the New Haven Chargers .[2] In 2017, Guarino was named as the Gatorade Player of the Year in Maine and was featured as the MaxPreps Athletes of the Month.[3] Additionally, he has played for the SACSN National Team.
Life and education[edit]
Guarino was born and raised in Falmouth, Maine, to parents Peter and Elizabeth Guarino.[4] He attended Falmouth High School and later earned a B.S and M.S. degree in Environmental Science from New Haven and an additionl degree from Georgetown in Sports Management.[5]
Baseball career[edit]
During his high school career, for his performances he was named the 2017 Gatorade Player of the Year and selection to various All-State and All-Conference teams.[3] In 2017, he led Falmouth High School to a 4–1 victory over Cheverus in the Class A South title game at St. Joseph's College, retiring 16 consecutive batters after allowing a single in the first inning to help secure Falmouth's second consecutive regional title.[6]
In the Class A South Final against South Portland, Guarino pitched a one-hitter, leading Falmouth to a 4–2 victory and advancing to the state championship game, finishing the season with a 10–0 record despite the team committing four early errors.[7]
He began his collegiate baseball career at the University of New Haven, making 17 appearances primarily as a reliever and recording a 5.83 earned run average (ERA) over 29.1 innings pitched.[8] In his freshman year in 2019, he was leading all Charger pitchers with 16 appearances, including two starts.[9]
He transferred to Georgetown University from the University of New Haven. In his first appearance for Georgetown, Guarino sustained an injury after managing a difficult situation and starting a new inning.[5] He was also named to the Big East All-Academic Team.[2]
