Aram Serhad, birth name Gökhan Sevinç[1] (born 27 September 1990 in Sarıgöl, Turkey),[2] is a Kurdish-Turkish singer, songwriter and composer.
Early life[edit]
Aram Serhad, whose real name is Gökhan Sevinç, was born 27 September 1990 in Sarıgöl district of Manisa province into a Kurdish family migrated from Bulanık district of Muş province, eastern Anatolia.[1][3] His family had to migrate tp Manisa due to the Kurdistan Workers' Party insurgency events in the late 80s.[1][2][3]
Career[edit]
At younger age, Sevinç was a member of a Manisa dance club for 2 years and worked as a bucket operator for around 5 years, while he continued to sing Kurdish songs.[1] Later, he settled to Istanbul with his father.
Sevinç often performed as an street musician.[2][4] One night, while he was performing in Istanbul on an local street, he was beaten badly by a group of Turkish nationalists.[2] Reason that he stopped playing music for months. In 2014, he released his first professional album called Tê nedî/Çavşîn. He was firstly known with the release of this Album, and was able to build a community.[2] Then in 2019, he released his second album called Rê. Also 2019, he founded a music label called Aram Records.[4]
Sevinç has performed concerts in many places in Turkey, and Europe.[2] In December 2015, he was arrested by Turkish police because of an pro-PKK speech on stage and singing Kurdish seperatistic songs during Newroz, 2013 in Diyarbakır.[2][4] He was released after a few days.
