Baofeng (company)

Fujian Baofeng Electronics Co., Ltd. is a Chinese electronic manufacturer from Fujian. The company is known for their worldwide distributed SDR-based Two Way Radios. Baofeng overs OEM/ODM Services for different other brands, including Yaesu.[1]

Baofeng UV-5R

According to the China-trade site "Made-In-China" the company has about 360 employees and was established in 2001.[2] The most known product is the Baofeng UV-R5, produced since 2012. Based on this model Baofeng overs a number of varioations of this radio. The controversial UV-R5 had no FCC Part 95 certification in the United States and as a result, it was not authorized for use in the GMRS and FRS, only for amateur radio.[3] The UV-5R has attracted the attention of multiple telecommunications regulators due to problems relating primarily to frequency interference and hamonic distortion. The radio get banned from sale and use in Switzerland, Germany, Poland and South Africa.
