Andyford Banda is a Zambian politician and former Minister of Information and Broadcasting Services.[1][2] He was awarded the Zambia Revenue Authority's "Taxpayer of the Year" award in 2018. He is the member of People’s Alliance for Change.[3][4]

Early life[edit]

Andyford Banda was born on February 12, 1968, in Monze, Zambia.[5][6] He grew up in a rural area and was raised by his parents, who were farmers.[4]

Education[edit]

Banda attended primary school at Monze Central School and secondary school at Monze Secondary School. He then went on to study at the University of Zambia, where he earned a bachelor's degree in political science.[4][7]

Political career[edit]

Banda began his political career in 2001, when he was elected as a counselor for the Monze Town Council.[8] He later became the deputy mayor of Monze and then the mayor. In 2011, he was elected as a Member of Parliament for the Monze Central constituency. He served as the Minister of Information and Broadcasting Services from 2015 to 2019.[4][9][10]

Banda has also worked as a teacher and a businessman.

Personal life[edit]

Banda is married and has four children. He is a member of the United Church of Zambia.

Allegations[edit]

Banda has faced allegations of corruption and abuse of power, which he has denied.[11]
