Sanbangsan Mountain (Korean산방산) is a 395-meter trachytic lava dome located on the southwest coast of Jeju Island, South Korea. It is one of three notable geological formations on the island, including Hallasan Mountain and Seongsan IlchulbongTuff Cone.[1]

Sanbangsan gets its name "mountain with a cave," because of Sanbanggul Cave, nestled around the mountain's midsection. Sanbanggulsa Temple, at its foot, houses a sacred Buddha statue and has a prominent view of the coastline of Andeok-myeon, Seogwipo-si. It is a protected cultural heritage as well as a UNESCO Global Geoparks site.[2] Hikers are not permitted to enter the protected area nor climb to the summit.

According to legend, a supreme deity or the grandmother deity, Seolmundae Halmang, plucked Hallasan Mountain's peak and fashioned it into Sanbangsan's current form. Each spring, the fields surrounding the mountain come alive with vibrant canola flowers, painting a picturesque contrast against the rugged slopes and making it a popular spot for photographers.[3]
